The Sun is Eternal

President Kim Il Sung, the sun of humankind

 The Sun is Eternal

Korea designated President Kim Il Sung’s birthday (April 15) as the Day of the Sun.

Meaning of the President’s Name

The name of President Kim Il Sung means the sun.

He illuminated the road for mankind to follow as the sun does. By evolving the Juche idea and Songun idea, he ushered in a new historical era, era of independence, in which the masses of the people, that had been regarded as mere objects of exploitation and oppression in the past, emerged as the masters of society.

Upholding the banner of the Juche idea and Songun idea, he achieved the historic cause of national liberation by putting an end to the Japanese military occupation of Korea, frustrated the aggression and challenges of the US imperialists and built a people-centered socialist country in Korea.

He made a great contribution to the victorious advance of the cause of the global independence by making public many works including The Great Anti-Imperialist Revolutionary Cause of the Asian, African and Latin-American Peoples Is Invincible, The Peoples of the Third World Advancing under the Uplifted Banner of Independence Will Certainly Win the Revolutionary Cause, For the Development of the Non-Aligned Movement, Preventing War and Preserving Peace Are the Burning Tasks of Mankind, Progressive Youth of the World, Unite and Fight Vigorously against Imperialism and For a Free and Peaceful New World.

His works instill confidence in sure victory and courage in the people of many countries who are struggling for the cause of anti-imperialism and independence.

When socialism collapsed in several countries in the closing years of last century, he led the DPRK to staunchly adhere to socialism, thus giving courage and confidence in socialism to the world’s progressive people.

Lava Chaves, an outstanding Ecuadorian figure said:

“President Kim Il Sung is the great sun. Whoever illumined the road ahead of mankind, the road to man-centered socialism, like he did, can be likened to nothing but the sun.”

All those who ever met him were struck by his great personality. Among them were Stalin, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Skarno, Tito and many other political leaders of the Eastern and western countries.

Jimmy Carter, former US president, after he met President Kim Il Sung, said that President Kim Il Sung was as great as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, the most illustrious early US presidents, all combined.

Reflecting the deep respect and reverence for him, many things and units around the world were named after Kim Il Sung including Kimilsungia, International Kim Il Sung Prize, Generalissimo Kim Il Sung Street and Kim Il Sung House of Culture.
